The frescoes in the Brancacci Chapel are among the finest paintings of all time. They were executed by Masolino and his young pupil, Masaccio (circa 1425) and completed by Filippino Lippi (circa 1485). The fresco cycle centers on episodes from the life of Saint Peter. Masolino’s courtly style is clearly evident in the St. Peter Healing the Sick with his Shadow and the Resurrection of Tabitha. The portions by Masaccio that include the famous Expulsion [of Adam and Eve] and The Tribute Money reveal the genius of the father of Renaissance painting in the perspective, the powerful volumes and the human features of the figures. Around 60 years later, Filippino Lippi brilliantly succeeded in adapting his style to what had already been painted.
