On the left of the façade of the church of Ognissanti is the access to the cloister with seventeenth century frescoes of Scenes from the Life of St. Francis (Ligozzi, G. da San Giovanni). After traversing the cloister we come to Ghirlandaio’s Last Supper. This large fresco, the most direct antecedent of Leonardo da Vinci’s masterpiece, was painted in 1480. A lush paradisiacal landscape with a variety of plants and allegorical birds (including an unforgettable peacock) is the background to the scene. The still-life elements in the foreground on the table are quite remarkable.
