The name comes from the Umbrian nuns who lived here. Hidden to the world for centuries because it was a cloistered order, this fresco was discovered in the nineteenth century and was attributed to Raphael because of its beauty. Actually, it was painted by Perugino some time around 1485. A mock stone cornice frames the scene: Judas, the only figure on the near side of the table, faces the observer as he holds a bag of coins in his hand. Behind the brocade parapet there are pillars and arches of a Renaissance-style architectural background framing a distant scene of Christ Praying in the Garden set against a hilly landscape.
