Borgo Pinti, 58, 50121 Firenze, Italia
Show on map
As we walk along the narrow Borgo Pinti we unexpectedly come to a beautiful Renaissance four-sided portico with Ionic capitals by Giuliano da Sangallo in front of the church of Santa Maria Maddalena dei Pazzi. Inside the church, at the end of the right aisle we can begin our descent to the crypt and finally Perugino’s fresco. Between three trompe l’oeil lunettes that blend perfectly with the real architecture, the artist – who was Raphael’s teacher – painted this scene of unusual simplicity against a background of a tranquil, sloping landscape.
