Three Year Degree Course "The Culture and Creation of Fashion"
The course in Culture and Creation of Fashion was created in 2001 following the national reforms of the Italian educational system. The experience acquired at the Faculty of Letters and Philosophy with the previous degree course in Fashion and Costume Professionals led to the definition of 6 three-year curricula:
1) Culture and Creation of Apparel - FASHION - aimed at preparing professionals with technical and creative abilities for careers in high fashion, prêt-à-porter, and street style providing a solid background in the major and minor arts combined with practice in designing and tailoring techniques.
2) Culture and Creation of Apparel - JEWELRY - aimed at preparing professionals in the fields of gold- and silver-smithing with a strong background in history and the liberal arts along with instruction in design, graphic techniques, the materials and practical lessons in techniques.
3) Culture and Creation of Apparel - TEXTILES - offering a curriculum in which education in textile design aims at various areas of design, combining creativity with a strong background in the technical features of the materials and working/industrial methods that go into the creation of the finished product. Creativity and technical skills are developed through hands-on classes, creative design, weaving, printing and decorating fabrics.
4) Culture and Creation of Apparel - THEATRICAL COSTUMES - aimed at preparing experts with the cultural and methodological tools needed to understand the artistic and cultural phenomena related to historical and contemporary attire. Theory comprises the basis for optimum use of the workshops in which theater costumes are created. The graduate will be able to work as a liaison between the director and set designer.
5) Expert in Multimedia Languages and Fashion Trends. By providing a solid background and full understanding of the psycho-social and cultural dynamics that characterize contemporary society this course aims at training a professional specialized in multimedia languages and research on future fashion trends.
6) Textile and Clothing Restoration, Cataloguing and Conservation - this course aims at training professionals in the field of conservation of the textile heritage. Graduates will combine a solid cultural background with specific knowledge in the fields of science, merchandise and new conservation techniques. Practical, laboratory lessons working on historic textiles are an essential part of the course. Currently, this is the only three-year degree course in this field available in Italy.
