This fountain, also known as Fontana dello Sprone is one of the most beautiful public fountains in the Oltrarno district. It was commissioned to Buontalenti (1608) as part of the project to beautify the area where the wedding procession of Cosimo II de’ Medici and Maria Maddalena of Austria would pass. At the same time the statues of the four seasons were raised on the Ponte Santa Trinita.
