Horne Museum
Horne Museum

Via de' Benci, 6, 50122 Firenze, Italia
Show on map
Thanks to the generosity of the art historian and architect, Herbert Percy Horne who died in 1916, the museum is housed in the Palazzo Corsi that was restored to the way it looked in the late fifteenth century (it is said to have been designed by Cronaca) under the guidance of Mr. Horne who wanted to recreate the typical atmosphere – with furnishings – of a Renaissance palazzo. From the beautiful courtyard (portico, graffito decorations and loggia) we take the stairs to the upper floors where, along with the interesting period furniture, we can admire artworks from different periods and origins: from the pride of the museum, the St. Stephen by Giotto, to paintings by Simone Martini and Pietro Lorenzetti, from Masaccio to Filippino Lippi, from Dosso Dissi to Beccafumi. The museum’s collection also includes ancient coins, seals and medals (ground floor) as well as interesting household items (in the former kitchen on the second floor).
