Leonardo Bugelli
Florentine and born in 1962, Leonardo Bugelli learned the art of making shirts from an old and expert lady shirt maker. She taught him the techniques and secrets of making this essential and timeless part of every man's wardrobe. Enthusiastically Leonardo studied documents and old shirt styles and details, and learned lessons that were invaluable for his future as a skilled artisan specializing in custom-made shirts for an elegant, demanding clientele. Today, in his workshop located on Via Fra’ Bartolomeo, Leonardo takes measures, prepares a paper pattern, cuts the cloth by hand, bastes it, does the fitting before going ahead with the details (buttonholes, hand-embroidered monograms, etc.). A traditional must is the application of the shirtfront/plastron. Leonardo uses only the finest fabrics: cotton, cotton-linen blends, silk and pure linen. The buttons are made of Austrian mother-of pearl – and, he has a large assortment of fine neckties.
