Piazza di San Pancrazio, 50123 Firenze, Italia
Show on map
The deconsecrated church of San Pancrazio (the façade presents interesting architectural details by Alberti) houses the collection of works by Marino Marini which the artist himself donated to the city. The artistic career of one of Italy’s greatest twentieth century sculptors is displayed here in an exhibit of nearly two hundred pieces that covers three floors, brilliantly combining the old and new. Sculptures in wood, bronze, terracotta, and plaster, along with paintings, drawings and engravings cover the broad range of techniques Marini used. Among the various themes that include his famous renderings of Cavalieri and Pomone, - recurring and paradigmatic in the artist’s creative journey - classical themes and references to fifteenth century art come together in a fascinating and unusual contemporary-key rivisitation.
