Moda Sartoriale di Piero e Franco Cisternino

Piero Cisternino was born at Meledugno in 1944; at the age of eleven he began helping the town tailor after school, threading needles and basting. When he was thirteen he became an apprentice to a tailor in nearby Lecce and two years later was in Florence, with his cousin, Antonio Candido a master-tailor who taught him the secrets of the craft. During his military service in Milan he found the time to attend the Ruggeri school: he learned to cut, acquired important knowledge about fabrics and earned a diploma as Sarto Tagliatore (tailor-cutter) of men’s and women’s clothing. Then, at the Technical high school “Lucrezia Tornabuoni” he met Anna Anni – teacher, and set designer for cinema and theater – who introduced him to the world of design and pattern making. Many famous clients flock to his shop in Via del Purgatorio. He has created interesting and unusual men’s and women’s clothing for work and special occasions for the Libyan leader, Muammar Qaddafi who wanted modern, revolutionary, yet traditional and non-Western dress for his people . It is a story of growth and experimentation, the story of an unusual man who loves his trade and is never frightened by the idea of hard work or the challenges that he always greets with a smile.
