The complex known as Casa di Dante, or Dante’s House, is the result of an early twentieth century reconstruction in neo-Medieval style more or less in the area where Dante’s birthplace stood. Inside the museum, in addition to many, many editions of the Divine Comedy there is a rich display of documents and illustrations about the Florence of Dante’s lifetime. The museum is located in the heart of Medieval Florence, near many places that Dante wrote about or frequented such as the church of Santa Maria dei Cerchi (known as “Chiesa di Dante”) where the members of Beatrice Portinari’s family are interred and where Dante married Gemma Donati.
