This collection is named for the Genoese patron of the arts and collector, Alberto Della Ragione who donated his prestigious collection of twentieth century art to the City of Florence in 1970. It ranges from Futurism to the Metaphysical, from the return to order of the Valori Plastici and the XX century, to the Italians in Paris, from the Scuola Romana to Corrente, to the more recent artistic experiences of the nineteen-fifties. The artists on display include: De Chirico, Carrà, Rosai, Morandi, Licini, De Pisis, Casorati, Sironi, the Scuola Romana and the Corrente movements. Modern sculpture is represented through works by Marino Marini, Arturo Maritni, Manzù and Lucio Fontana.
